Support a local family with a holiday meal box!

“Pozole reminds me that food can heal more than hunger—it’s medicine for the soul.” — Lupita Nyong’o

NVCR is creating holiday meal boxes to support our Latine community with ingredients to make a family size pot of a traditional holiday dish – pozole! We are asking you to donate a meal (or several) for the flat rate of $25 each.

You can purchase meal boxes using the Zelle feature in your in your online banking portal or banking app. WECU, BECU and ICU as well as most major commercial banks support the Zelle feature and will have instructions for simple set up. The contact you will be donating to is Noelia Miranda-Avila at Mercadito Miranda by entering mobile #360-389-0970 or scanning the QR code below. In the “reason” box, please add Holiday Box x the number of boxes you would like to donate. For example, if you would like to donate three meal boxes, you would send $75 and write Holiday Box x 3. The deadline to order boxes is December 10.

A huge thank you to Noelia at Mercadito Miranda for partnering with us on this project. Please support this vital local business and show Noelia some love by doing some of your holiday shopping in her store. Fancy a cup of Mexican hot chocolate? Some dulces (Mexican candy) for stocking stuffers? Want to make pozole for your family? You can find it all at Mercadito Miranda – 108 Harkness St in downtown Everson!

we would like to support a coupleof boxes as well as simple gifts for children. will we know how many kids and ages to guide purchases?

    1. We are not collecting information about recipients, so we won’t know exactly how many kids and their ages. I have reached out to our community partner who is facilitating the distribution to see what would be best and I will email you when I hear back!

I’d like to contribute to support the community affected by ICE. I do not use Zelle or Venmo. I’d like to mail a check. If this is doable, who should the check be made out to and where shall I mail it?
    Thank you for your work.

    1. Hi Janet! This group is not able to accept donations as we are not a registered non-profit. That is why we had to have donations for the holiday food boxes go straight to the vendor we were coordinating with. That drive is over, but we are now partnering with Whatcom Faith Community Immigrant Support to grow their capacity to deliver food to families throughout the county. That would be a wonderful place to donate. I will email you their contact info. If you are interested in supporting packing and delivering boxes in our area, we can also connect you with that opportunity.
